Buying jewellery is rarely a casual decision. It is often intertwined with life’s most meaningful occasions and personal milestones, which is why every purchase is approached with thought, care, and intention. Alongside beauty and design, understanding the true value behind a piece then, becomes just as important.

The price of a piece of jewellery is never a single note, but a composition shaped by multiple elements: the intrinsic value of gold, the finesse of craftsmanship, the intricacy of design, and the artistry that transforms raw material into something enduring and expressive. At Tanishq, this is shared with complete clarity, with every purchase accompanied by a detailed price breakup so you know exactly what goes into your piece, line by line.

At Tanishq, transparency sits at the heart of every journey, and trust remains our most valued promise. This guide explains how jewellery pricing is thoughtfully structured, breaking down each element so you can make every choice with clarity and confidence.

Components of Tanishq Jewellery Pricing

From the rate of gold itself to the making charges of our iconic designs, each of the below component adds meaningful value to the final price of our jewellery pieces.

  • Gold Value (gold weight x gold rate)
  • Making charges
  • Stones (if any)
  • GST

Component 1: Gold value

Gold forms the foundation of every piece, with its value determined through a clear and precise method designed to ensure fairness and consistency for every customer.

  • Gold Value

Tanishq takes the exact net weight of the gold and multiplies it by the current market rate, ensuring you pay only for the pure metal actually present in the piece.

  • Transparent Pricing

Gold rates are refreshed daily across all locations, keeping everything current and reliable. You can check live gold rates online or in stores anytime, which lets you plan your purchases smartly during favourable dips.

  • Purity and certifications

Along with transparency, Tanishq maintains strict standards for gold purity and uses carefully tested, high-quality alloys to ensure both durability and brilliance in every piece. Gold purity certification through HUID stamps verifies the exact karat quality, giving you complete peace about what lies beneath the shine of your jewellery.

Component 2: Making charges

The skilled craftsmanship, time, and intricate detailing that go into transforming raw gold into a finely finished piece of jewellery are reflected in the making charges, an essential part of Jewellery price components.

  • What do Tanishq making charges include?

Making charges account for everything from melting and shaping the gold to detailed engraving, polishing, and even advanced fusion techniques that create the wearable works of art we know and love. There are two types of making charges: handmade, where skilled karigars shape each piece, and machine-made for quicker production. At Tanishq, our Karigars dedicate immense effort and time to perfecting each step, ensuring the jewellery not only feels comfortable, but also looks exquisite.

  • Why do they vary by design?

A simple chain requires less intricate work, so its charges stay modest, while an elaborate diamond jewellery piece with fine detailing calls for more artisan hours and specialized techniques. Innovations like lightweight designs cut down on material usage compared to standard pieces, striking a perfect balance between beauty and true value. Beyond artistry, every Tanishq piece’s clasps are tested thousands of cycles, hooks and links are subjected to extreme conditions far beyond the needs of everyday wear, so you can trust that your jewellery is built to last a lifetime, not just look beautiful on day-one.

Tanishq making charges start from as low as 7%, and just 3% for coins, and you can choose from an immense collection of over 1.8 lakh finely crafted designs, starting from just Rs.15,000. Their making charges for each depend on weight, design complexity, and current gold rates, all of which are shown clearly when you buy your piece.

Component 3: Stones or diamonds (if applicable)

When designs feature diamonds or other stones, each is itemised as a separate component and backed by certification, ensuring complete transparency and traceability in the billing.

  • Quality, setting and certification

At Tanishq, every diamond is 100% natural, with no synthetic pieces in our collections, free from inclusions, brown or green hues, milky appearances, or strong fluorescence. Expert settings not only protect the gems from daily wear but also position them to catch light beautifully, maximizing their natural sparkle.

Tanishq’s DXC stands for Diamond Expertise Centre, an in-store experience that allows consumers to independently verify the authenticity of their diamonds. Rooted in Tanishq’s philosophy of proof over promise, DXC combines certification with advanced machines, enabling consumers to examine key diamond characteristics firsthand rather than relying solely on diamond certification or expert guidance.

The Diamond Caratmeter helps distinguish natural diamonds from synthetic ones which would not have been possible otherwise. The Lightscope helps consumers compare how different diamonds reflect and return light, making it easier to identify diamonds with exceptional sparkle and brilliance. The Diamond Clarity Viewer lets consumers examine a diamond’s inclusions and understand its clarity grading like your VS, VVS, etc in detail. Rather than depending solely on certification, consumers can independently evaluate a diamond’s clarity grading against a certificate and make a more informed purchase decision.

  • 3 Decimal Place Accuracy

Tanishq measures diamond carat weight as precisely as up to three decimal places, ensuring you pay only for the exact diamond you receive. For instance, while many jewellers round 0.231 carats up to 0.24 carats, Tanishq keeps it at 0.231, protecting you from any hidden overcharges. This may seem small, but rounding even 0.01 carat across thousands of purchases means customers unknowingly pay for diamonds they never actually received.

  • Separate visibility on invoice

The invoice lists stone costs distinctly from the gold value, allowing you to see exactly how much each element contributes to the total. This transparent jewellery invoice approach ensures nothing gets bundled or hidden from view.

Component 4: Taxes (GST)

The GST on gold jewellery serves as the mandatory final step for all pieces, applied openly and predictably as part of standard government regulations.

  • Clearly stated and government-mandated

GST follows set slabs and appears as a separate line on the receipt, calculated directly on the value of gold and making charges combined. This clear presentation avoids any guesswork right from the outset.
